The Walking Tour
Join your local tour guide on an eco-history tour of the Annex, starting in the Indigenous botanical garden Paul Martel Park (10 Madison Ave.). You’ll get to see the diverse plant life the area supports and nurtures, while learning about the ecological history of the area. You’ll also learn about the Indigenous history of the area in front of the newly painted mural by Joseph Sagaj, also located in Paul Martel Park. After a 5 minute walk on Bloor Street West, you’ll get to explore the Bata Shoe Museum, a unique Toronto museum which displays thousands of shoes and shoe-related artifacts. Specifically, you’ll learn about the making of Moccasins, a style of shoe traditionally made and worn by the Indigenous Peoples in Canada. Another 5 minutes away is the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), the largest museum in Canada. With the group, you’ll learn about even more about Canada’s Indigenous History. After the tour ends, you’ll be free to roam the ROM as you please.
